GLAA statement on death of Wanda Alston

Thursday, March 17, 2005

Friends,

All of us in GLAA would like to express our horror and sorrow at the news of the murder of Wanda Alston, the director of the D.C. Office of LGBT Affairs, which we learned about early Wednesday evening. GLAA President Kevin Davis had gathered with other members of Wanda's executive advisory committee for a scheduled meeting in the Wilson Building when the first unconfirmed report of the awful news came in. Sadly, as we learned later, the report was not mistaken.

As our community is still reeling from this shock, we can only express our condolences to Wanda's family, friends, and colleagues, and express our hope that the police will soon track down whoever committed this heinous act.
