Mayor Gray issues proclamation honoring GLAA's 42nd anniversary

A PROCLAMATION BY THE MAYOR OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

WHEREAS, the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance of Washington, DC (GLAA) was founded in April 1971 to advance equal rights and social equality for lesbians and gay men living in the District of Columbia; and

WHEREAS, GLAA continues to fight to improve services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals; and

WHEREAS, GLAA has been an outspoken advocate for a safe and affirming educational environment for LGBT youth, has stoutly defended the District's comprehensive human rights law, has stood up for the rights of LGBT consumers, and has been a leader in advancing the rights of same sex couples and their families; and

WHEREAS, today, GLAA celebrates its 42nd anniversary and will recognize several individuals for their community service: Diana Bruce, Clarence J. Fluker, Brent Minor, Peter Rosenstein, and Jason A. Terry;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, THE MAYOR OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, do hereby send best wishes to the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance of Washington, DC as they celebrate their 42nd anniversary.
