Kevin Davis presents award to One In Ten

Distinguished Service Award for One In Ten

Presented by Kevin Davis, GLAA Vice President for Administrative Affairs

GLAA 28th Anniversary Reception
Charles Sumner School
Thursday, April 22, 1999

Greetings everyone. My name is Kevin Davis. Thank you for attending and supporting GLAA this evening. I have the distinct pleasure to serve this great organization as Administrative Vice President.

I am equally pleased to present a Distinguished Service Award to this next organization, one that has earned widespread acclaim and support throughout our community. The organization is One in Ten. The good people of One in Ten are both the founders and sponsors of Reel Affirmations, the Washington International Gay/Lesbian Film Festival, and the co-sponsors of Capital Pride, DC’s annual Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Celebration.

A brief word on the history of One in Ten. The organization was founded in 1990 by Keith Clark and Barry Becker who wanted to create an organization dedicated to affirming the dignity, respect and self-worth of gay and lesbian people through cultural events and community service. The film festival has certainly prospered and so have some of the featured filmmakers. Just remember that “Gods and Monsters” had its first showing at Reel Affirmations, and it won the grand prize that year.

I am proud to present this Distinguished Service Award with great enthusiasm to a very worthy group, One in Ten.
