Yes. “There’s a difference between the lounge act and the acts that play the main room.” The brazen ignorance, bottom feeding, and reckless disregard for the national interest that won Trump the nomination will sink him and the GOP in the fall. This will happen not because it is ordained (it most certainly is not), but because his appalling spectacle will mobilize responsible citizens to turn out and ensure a blowout election. That in turn should give Hillary the Senate majority she will need to get liberal justices confirmed to the Supreme Court. Turnout is key. What it will win for us is not something perfect, but the chance to secure (and in some cases restore) the gains of the past and press forward in making America’s government reflect the diversity of its people.
