The National Center for Lesbian Rights tweets:
In DC, many Black trans current and former sex workers are arrested after being entrapped and profiled by officers, and many cops also sexually assault them.
@councilofdc, hold @DCPoliceDept and @ChiefNewsham accountable! #DecrimNow
Longtime DC transgender advocate Dee Curry has spoken out about being harassed by DC police, as recently reported by the Washington Blade.
Can you join us from 10am – 4pm today in calling your D.C. Councilmember today to demand that they hold MPD accountable for harassment and violence against sex workers, and to call for an end to sex work related arrests?
“Hi Councilmember XX. I read in the Washington Blade that MPD’s Human Trafficking Unit is harassing and profiling Black trans people and sex workers, including Black elders. We can’t allow discrimination against our community members, current or former sex workers, to continue. Can you commit to supporting decriminalization of sex work, telling MPD to stop these prostitution arrests and entrapment, and hold them accountable for the multiple reports of police sexual abuse against people in the sex trade?”
“DC police keep harassing and entrapping Black trans current and former sex workers. So many Black trans people are arrested after being entrapped and profiled by officers, and many cops also sexually assault them. @councilofdc, hold @DCPoliceDept and @ChiefNewsham accountable! #”
