GLAA President Bobbi Strang issued the following statement:
“It is painful to see a longtime ally accused of impropriety and possible criminal behavior. But having followed recent developments, and in light of the evidence that Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans misused his public office for personal gain, we must urge that he step aside as Chair of the Committee on Finance and Revenue and abstain from participating as a voting member of the committee. In this way he can act on his words of apology and take personal responsibility pending further investigation. In our advocacy we have always embraced both rights and responsibilities; we can do no less now, saddened though we are by this state of affairs involving an old friend and champion. Embracing responsibility is essential to the defense and advancement of Home Rule principles. As difficult as this is, we hope that Councilmember Evans will act for the greater good, and do so promptly.”
